Liverpool’s Stance on Darwin Nunez Transfer

Liverpool has firmly decided against selling Darwin Nunez during the January transfer window, despite reported interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr. The club remains committed to keeping the Uruguayan striker, at least for now.

Al Nassr’s Interest & Liverpool’s Response

Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, home to stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, and Aymeric Laporte, was reportedly keen on acquiring Nunez. However, Liverpool has made it clear that they are not open to any late-window departures, especially without a suitable replacement lined up. This stance suggests that the Reds could revisit offers in the summer.

Nunez’s Performance at Liverpool

Since his high-profile £85m transfer from Benfica, Nunez has struggled with consistency. While he has shown flashes of brilliance, he has not yet delivered the prolific goal-scoring numbers expected of him. Under the management of Arne Slot, he has made 29 appearances this season but has started only seven Premier League matches.

Despite his limited starting opportunities, Liverpool still considers him an important squad member. His contributions have been more prominent in the Champions League, where Slot has given him more playing time. Domestically, Diogo Jota was initially preferred as the starting striker, with Luis Diaz stepping into the role following Jota’s injury setbacks.

Future Transfer Possibilities

Liverpool’s refusal to sell Nunez in January does not rule out a summer transfer. Reports indicate that if the Reds decide to offload the forward, there will be significant interest from various clubs. With the summer window offering more flexibility to find a suitable replacement, Liverpool may be open to negotiations in a few months.

Can Nunez Turn His Form Around?

Nunez has managed just four Premier League goals this season, two of which came in a short but impactful cameo against Brentford. He has also found the net in the Champions League and Carabao Cup. If he can improve his finishing and consistency in the second half of the season, he might convince Liverpool to keep him long-term.

What do you think? Should Liverpool hold on to Nunez, or would a summer sale be the best option? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
