Oleksandr Zinchenko, the versatile full-back for Arsenal, has become a hot topic in the transfer market, attracting serious interest from both Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid. After falling down the pecking order at Arsenal, the Ukrainian international is reportedly seeking more regular playing time, with both clubs exploring options to secure his signature.

Zinchenko’s Arsenal Future in Doubt

Zinchenko’s situation at Arsenal took a sharp turn following the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori in the summer transfer window. Adding to his struggles, an untimely injury allowed 17-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly to emerge as a regular starter in the left-back position, further reducing Zinchenko’s chances of reclaiming his spot.

Reports suggest Zinchenko is valued at approximately €20m (£16.8m) plus bonuses. While Borussia Dortmund initially showed strong interest, their financial limitations have placed them behind Atletico Madrid in the race.

Atletico Madrid Lead the Race

According to reports from Florian Plettenberg, Atletico Madrid has already initiated talks with Arsenal. The Spanish side is reportedly willing to meet Arsenal’s demands, offering either a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligatory purchase clause.

Borussia Dortmund, unable to match Arsenal’s valuation, may now look at alternative targets, including Chelsea’s out-of-favor left-back Ben Chilwell.

Arsenal’s January Plans

A potential sale of Zinchenko could bolster Arsenal’s efforts to sign a new striker before the January transfer window closes. Manager Mikel Arteta has openly admitted that his squad “clearly” needs additional support in the attacking department to maintain their Premier League title ambitions.
