Fenerbahçe Dominates Anderlecht in Europa League Play-Offs
Fenerbahçe secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Anderlecht in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League play-off round. However, head coach Jose Mourinho remains cautious, emphasizing that qualification is not yet guaranteed.
Mourinho’s Post-Match Comments
Speaking after the match, Mourinho expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance but stressed the importance of staying focused for the second leg.
“We played very well today. I can’t say it’s a great result because we haven’t advanced yet. If you’re leading 3-0 at halftime, you’re happy, but there’s still another 90-minute half to play. We must take this seriously. They will come at us with everything they’ve got in the return leg. Now, we shift our focus to the Kasımpaşa match.”
Mourinho on Yusuf Akçiçek’s Performance
The Portuguese tactician also commented on young talent Yusuf Akçiçek’s development and potential.
“Even before he started playing, I said it—I want to work with Yusuf and help him develop. In Turkey, culturally, people expect to see fully ready players. But Yusuf is very talented. He must keep his feet firmly on the ground. He has gained valuable experience during this period. He is intelligent and hardworking. However, he must always remain grounded.”
What’s Next for Fenerbahçe?
With a comfortable lead against Anderlecht, Fenerbahçe is in a strong position, but Mourinho’s warning suggests that the job is far from finished. Their next challenge will be a crucial domestic league clash against Kasımpaşa, where they aim to maintain their momentum.
