The new-look 2025 FIFA Club World Cup takes place next summer

The new-look 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will receive a major update this week as 32 qualified clubs learn their group stage opponents.

The draw for the group stage of the expanded and reformatted competition will see all teams split into eight groups of four, with the top two sides from each qualifying for the knockout stages of the tournament.

Held in the United States, the competition will take place over a number of weeks as opposed to days, replacing the old format in which just a handful of Champions League-winning sides locked horns.

Here is everything you need to know about the draw, including how to watch it live.

When is the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup?

Kyle Walker

The Club World Cup has previously been staged at the end of each calendar year, but that changes in 2025. The competition, now held every four years instead of annually, will be played across a month at the end of the current campaign.

Kicking off on 15 June and running until 13 July, the 2025 edition will take place in the off-season and will see clubs from all six continental federations compete in a minimum of three matches and a maximum of seven.

When is the group stage draw for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup?

The group stage draw will determine which clubs feature in which group, taking place on Thursday 5 December 2024. Held in Miami in the United States, the draw will commence at 18:00 GMT in the United Kingdom.

Every club will find out their three group stage opponents, including the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

The breakdown of qualified clubs by confederation is as follows:

  • UEFA – 12 teams
  • CONMEBOL – 6 teams
  • CONCACAF – 5 teams
  • AFC – 4 teams
  • CAF – 4 teams
  • OFC – 1 team
