Elon Musk’s Interest in Liverpool Confirmed by Father

Elon Musk, the controversial billionaire known for leading Tesla and acquiring Twitter, has reportedly shown interest in buying Liverpool, according to his father, Errol Musk. Speaking to Times Radio, Musk Sr shared that the family has historical ties to Liverpool, claiming a connection to “quite a few of the Beatles” due to his mother’s Liverpool roots.

However, any potential takeover appears highly unlikely.

FSG Dismiss Interest as Inconsequential

Liverpool’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), have firmly dismissed any suggestions of selling the club to Musk. According to The Times, FSG has had no contact with Musk or his representatives and has “no appetite” to entertain discussions about a sale.

Sky Sports further reported that Liverpool is “not for sale,” emphasizing that no formal approaches have been made by Musk or anyone else. FSG is reportedly not taking Musk Sr’s comments seriously, viewing the claims as speculative and without merit.

FSG’s History with Liverpool

FSG acquired Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million from former owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett. Over the last 15 years, the club has risen back to the top of English and European football, winning multiple trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League.

In 2024, Forbes ranked Liverpool as the fourth-most valuable football club in the world, valued at £4.3 billion. Despite this, FSG has remained committed to retaining majority control, only selling a minority stake to Dynasty Equity in 2023 for an estimated £82 million to £164 million. The funds were used primarily to pay off debts rather than relinquish control of the club.

Elon Musk’s Alleged Connection

While Musk’s family may have ties to Liverpool, the billionaire himself has previously identified Manchester United as his “favourite team” growing up. In 2022, he jokingly claimed on social media that he was buying the club, adding to the skepticism surrounding his supposed interest in Liverpool.

Conclusion

With FSG adamant about keeping Liverpool and no formal approaches from Musk, any speculation of a sale appears unfounded. Liverpool fans can rest assured that their club remains firmly in the hands of its current ownership, with no imminent changes on the horizon.
