Antony’s Struggles at Manchester United

Limited Game Time: Antony’s Challenges in 2024/25 Season

Antony, the 24-year-old Brazilian winger, has found himself on the periphery of Manchester United’s squad this season, with only 84 minutes of Premier League action spread across six substitute appearances. His lack of regular game time has led to growing speculation about his future at Old Trafford, with several European clubs, including Olympiacos, reportedly interested in a loan move.

Antony’s Fit in Ruben Amorim’s System

Despite the arrival of Ruben Amorim as head coach, Antony has failed to regain a prominent role in the starting XI. Amorim has preferred Amad Diallo as his main forward in a system that has often seen Noussair Mazraoui deployed as a right-wing back. This has left Antony struggling to establish himself as a key player for the Red Devils.

The Daily Mail reports that Greek giants Olympiacos are keen on securing Antony’s services on loan, with the potential for regular first-team football, something Antony has been lacking at United. However, any move would likely require Manchester United to subsidize a portion of the Brazilian’s significant wages, which were part of the £86m deal struck with Ajax in the summer of 2022.

Antony’s Agent Confirms Interest

Antony’s agent, Junior Pedroso, confirmed the growing interest in the winger, stating that several clubs had approached for a potential January loan move. He added that Antony’s future remains closely tied to Manchester United’s interests and that if the club sees a loan as a good opportunity for the player to gain more minutes and rebuild his form, they would consider the option.

Antony’s Promising Start, But Lack of Progress

Antony’s arrival at Manchester United was driven by former manager Erik ten Hag, who had worked with the winger at Ajax. The Brazilian initially impressed with a strong start, scoring three goals in his first three Premier League appearances, making him the first player in United’s history to achieve this feat. However, his progress has stalled, and he has often found himself relegated to the bench.

Possible Destinations for Antony

Real Betis in La Liga has been mentioned as a potential destination for Antony, with the Spanish side reportedly interested in bringing him in on loan. Additionally, a move to the Saudi Pro League has also been discussed in the past, given the league’s financial strength.

Manchester United is reportedly open to allowing Antony to leave on loan, provided the terms are favorable for the club. Other potential exits from Old Trafford include Marcus Rashford, with AC Milan reportedly interested in the England forward, and Joshua Zirkzee, who is said to be a target for Juventus.
