Ex-Liverpool Defender Speaks Out on Salah’s Future
Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has criticized the club for not showing enough “respect” to Mohamed Salah as uncertainty looms over the Egyptian star’s future at Anfield. Salah, whose contract expires in June, has yet to agree to a new deal, sparking speculation that he could leave as a free agent in the summer.
Lovren’s Concerns Over Salah’s Treatment
Speaking to WinWin, Lovren, who remains a close friend of Salah, expressed his frustration with Liverpool’s handling of the situation.
“I have to be careful what I say now because I know a lot of things. Everyone wants him to stay, and I called him one day and said: ‘Mo, you have to think about yourself. Look at everything you’ve given this club and what you can still give,'” Lovren stated.
“In the end, I came to the conclusion that the club doesn’t respect him enough.”
Salah himself hinted at his dissatisfaction back in November when he admitted he was “more out than in” at Liverpool due to the lack of a contract offer. While reports suggest a deal was presented in December, Lovren believes the forward is still “closer to leaving than staying.”
Who Could Replace Salah?

The Croatian defender further highlighted the difficulty of replacing Salah, emphasizing the Egyptian’s immense value.
“Money is an important factor, but he is worth more than money. The question is: who will replace him? Who will give you what Mohamed Salah offers?”
“If you want to replace him, I think you need to spend €200m, and the question remains whether they would perform as he does.”
Salah’s Next Step – Stay or Leave?
With Salah now eligible to sign a pre-contract with an overseas club, speculation continues about his next move. However, Lovren remains confident that his friend would prefer to stay at Liverpool if the club shows the right level of appreciation.
“He loves Liverpool a lot, and he wants to stay, and that’s the most important part. Maybe he sees himself retiring there, but in the end, it’s about other people making the decision!”
