Ronaldo’s Verdict on Mbappe’s Real Madrid Transition
Cristiano Ronaldo has issued a word of caution to Real Madrid regarding Kylian Mbappe’s adaptation to the striker role. Despite Mbappe’s recent upturn in form, the Portuguese legend believes the French star needs time to truly master the No.9 position.
Mbappe endured early struggles following his high-profile move from Paris Saint-Germain, with many questioning his effectiveness as a center-forward. However, after a difficult start—including a missed penalty against Athletic Club in December—the 26-year-old has bounced back impressively. He netted five goals in three La Liga matches in January and secured the Player of the Month award.
Ronaldo: “Mbappe Is Not a Natural Striker”
Speaking to El Chiringuito, Cristiano Ronaldo drew parallels between Mbappe’s transition at Madrid and his own evolution as a player. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner suggested that while Mbappe has all the qualities to succeed, he must learn to adapt to his new position.
“The striker position is a bit difficult for Mbappe because he doesn’t naturally play as a No.9. Not that he doesn’t know how to play there, but it’s not his main position,” Ronaldo stated.
“If I were at Real Madrid, I would teach him how to play as a striker. I wasn’t a natural No.9 either—I had to adapt. I used to play on the wing, and people forget that.”
“Mbappe Will Bring Madrid Plenty of Joy”
Despite his tactical concerns, Ronaldo expressed admiration for Mbappe’s talent and potential. The former Madrid superstar highlighted Mbappe’s admiration for him as a young player and shared his belief that the Frenchman will thrive at the Santiago Bernabéu.
“I love him very much, not just because he looked up to me as a kid, but because I truly see him as a star. He is going to bring Real Madrid a lot of joy.”
