Chelsea’s struggles continue, but the club remains committed to head coach Enzo Maresca. Following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brighton, questions have been raised about Maresca’s future. However, reports suggest that the Italian manager’s position is not under threat.

Chelsea’s Recent Struggles

Chelsea endured another frustrating night at the AMEX Stadium, failing to register a single shot on target in their second defeat to Brighton within a week. Maresca admitted it was the team’s worst performance since his arrival, apologizing to the traveling fans.

Since mid-December, Chelsea have won just two of their last nine Premier League matches, collecting fewer points than all but six teams during this period. Their form has seen them slip out of the top four, sparking concerns over their Champions League qualification hopes.

Chelsea’s Stance on Maresca’s Future

Despite mounting pressure, Maresca’s job remains safe.

  • Fabrizio Romano reported that there is “no danger, no problem, no issues” regarding Maresca’s position, as Chelsea still view him as “the right man for the job.”
  • The Athletic confirmed that the club remains “happy” with Maresca, acknowledging that injuries have played a significant role in their struggles.

Maresca remains confident in his project, emphasizing that Chelsea are “in the right process, in the right direction.” The club was not expected to challenge for Champions League qualification until the 2025/26 season, making their current position ahead of schedule.

Champions League Qualification Still in Reach

With 13 games remaining, Chelsea are level on points with fifth-placed Bournemouth. If the Premier League secures five Champions League spots, Chelsea’s European hopes remain alive.

However, the club’s ownership has a reputation for making quick managerial changes. Since BlueCo took over three years ago, Maresca has become the sixth different coach to take charge. Even Mauricio Pochettino, who guided Chelsea to a respectable sixth-place finish last season, was dismissed.

Aware of this history, Maresca acknowledged the pressure after the Brighton defeat, stating: “I feel pressure always.”

What Do You Think?

Can Maresca turn things around at Chelsea? Should the club continue backing him, or is a change needed? Share your thoughts in the comments!
