Barcelona sporting director Deco has clarified the club’s stance on potential transfers, including speculation surrounding Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. While reports suggest Barcelona may be Rashford’s “dream” destination, Deco emphasized that contract renewals and financial fair play compliance remain the club’s current priorities.

Barcelona’s Financial Constraints Take Center Stage
Deco revealed that Barcelona are prioritizing player contract extensions and adhering to La Liga’s financial regulations before considering new signings. Speaking to Movistar ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League match against Benfica, Deco stated:
“We are on the subject of [financial] fair play. Arranging it is our focus. If, in the end, we can reinforce the team, we will try, but today there is nothing.”
The club’s financial challenges are well-documented, with Barcelona seeking emergency registrations for players like Dani Olmo and Pau Victor earlier in the season. Deco further noted:
“These are fair play issues, and the priorities today are the renewals of the important players we have in the squad. Once this is over, we can focus on one reinforcement or another, but it is not something that the manager has asked us for.”
Marcus Rashford’s Situation at Manchester United
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford has been linked to multiple European clubs amid limited playing time at Manchester United. While interest from AC Milan has cooled, and Borussia Dortmund’s appeal appears unconvincing, Barcelona have been framed as Rashford’s preferred destination.
Despite the transfer rumors, reports from the British media suggest Rashford is determined to stay at Old Trafford and reclaim his place in the team. The 27-year-old has not played first-team football since mid-December under Ruben Amorim but is reportedly undergoing extra training sessions to work his way back into the manager’s plans.
