Barcelona are determined to secure the future of Jules Kounde, a long-term target for Chelsea, by offering the French defender a new long-term contract, according to reports from Spain.

Barcelona’s Plan to Keep Kounde
Kounde’s current contract runs until 2027, having joined the Catalan giants from Sevilla two-and-a-half years ago. Initially signed as a centre-back, Kounde has since developed into one of the best full-backs in world football, excelling under Hansi Flick.
Barcelona now prioritize extending his contract to fend off interest from Chelsea, who were heavily linked with the defender before he opted for Spain. Reports suggest the Blues were considering a €100M (£83.3M) bid this summer, but Barcelona remain firm in their stance—Kounde is not for sale.
Chelsea’s Interest & Barcelona’s Defensive Overhaul
Despite ongoing speculation, Barcelona remain committed to keeping their defensive core intact. They recently secured long-term deals for key players such as:
- Ronald Araujo (contract until 2031)
- Pau Cubarsi (contract until 2029)
- Pedri & Gavi (La Masia stars committed long-term)
The only expected defensive addition this summer is Jonathan Tah, who is set to join on a free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen. His arrival could result in the departure of either Eric Garcia or Andreas Christensen.
Will Kounde Stay or Consider a Move?
While Kounde has enjoyed his transition to full-back, Barcelona are willing to offer him a return to centre-back if he prefers. Coupled with his strong adaptation to Spain and appreciation for Flick’s tactics, the club is hopeful he will commit to a long-term future at Camp Nou.
