David Raya’s Injury: A Concern for Arsenal?
David Raya was a surprise absentee from Arsenal’s squad during their Champions League victory over Girona. While he traveled with the team to Spain, Mikel Arteta confirmed that the goalkeeper was not fit to play.
When asked about the nature of Raya’s injury, Arteta remained tight-lipped, simply stating:
🗣️ “Let’s see how it goes.”
However, according to The Athletic, there are no major concerns over Raya’s injury, and there is a real possibility he could return in time for the critical Premier League clash against Manchester City.
If Raya fails to recover in time, backup goalkeeper Neto is set to continue between the sticks. The 35-year-old veteran was signed on loan from Bournemouth as a replacement for Aaron Ramsdale and made his Arsenal debut against Girona.
Although his performance was far from convincing, including a shaky start and a misjudged positioning error that led to Girona’s goal, Arteta remains confident in Neto’s ability:
🗣️ “That’s why he’s here—to do that job, and he’s done it for 20-odd years in his career.”
Additionally, 16-year-old academy goalkeeper Jack Porter was promoted to the squad for the Girona match but is unlikely to feature against Manchester City.
Arsenal vs Manchester City: A Title-Defining Clash?
Sunday’s showdown is a must-win match for both teams. A victory for Arsenal could extend their lead over Manchester City to nine points, significantly boosting their Premier League title hopes.
