Alexander-Arnold Faces Injury Concern Ahead of Carabao Cup Clash

  • Alexander-Arnold withdrawn with 20 minutes to go in Liverpool’s win over Bournemouth
  • Full-back requested substitution after feeling discomfort
  • 26-year-old now doubtful for Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham

Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted that “it is never a good sign” when a player asks to be substituted, after Trent Alexander-Arnold left the pitch in the 2-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.

The 26-year-old full-back appeared to suffer a muscle strain and was replaced by Conor Bradley in the 70th minute. The injury overshadowed another dominant performance from Liverpool, who secured the win with a first-half penalty from Mohamed Salah and a stunning curling finish from the Egyptian forward.

Injury Update: Will Alexander-Arnold Be Fit for Tottenham Clash?

During his post-match press conference, Slot provided an update on Alexander-Arnold’s condition ahead of Liverpool’s crucial Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.

“The situation was that he said to me, ‘You have to take me off,’ and he sat on the floor. We took him off. He felt something, but I can’t tell you exactly what it is or how bad it is because we are just one hour after the game. But it is never a good sign if a player is asking for a substitution.”

Slot added that he would be “surprised” if Alexander-Arnold is available for the match, but remains hopeful for a quick recovery.

Alexander-Arnold has rediscovered top form this season, silencing his critics and playing a key role in Liverpool’s push for the Premier League title. However, his resurgence has also attracted interest from Real Madrid, as speculation grows over his future at Anfield.

The 26-year-old’s contract is set to expire this summer, along with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah’s deals. Reports suggest that Alexander-Arnold is considering a move to Real Madrid, a transfer that could boost his chances of winning the coveted Ballon d’Or in the future.
