Alvaro Carreras, the talented Benfica left-back, has weighed in on his future amidst growing interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United, Barcelona, and Real Madrid.

Carreras’ Impressive Season at Benfica

Carreras, 21, joined Benfica permanently this summer following a loan spell from Manchester United, where he was previously known as Alvaro Fernandez. His performances have earned him recognition, with his transfer value rising sharply over the past six months.

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have reportedly expressed interest in Carreras, but Benfica has made it clear that any move for the young left-back would require a fee of over £40m. Meanwhile, Manchester United is said to have a buy-back clause for just £17m, a potential move hinted at by former manager Erik ten Hag before his departure.

Despite the high-profile interest, Carreras has remained focused on his current role at Benfica and suggested that he is in no rush to leave.

Carreras’ Commitment to Benfica

After his assist in Benfica’s thrilling 5-4 defeat to Barcelona in midweek, Carreras commented on his future, affirming his happiness at the Portuguese club.

“I have a contract for many years here at Benfica, and I am happy,” Carreras stated. “They gave me the opportunity to grow, and I owe them everything.”

His contract with Benfica is set to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future, and it appears that he is content to continue his development in Portugal for now.

The Transfer Landscape for Carreras

While both Barcelona and Real Madrid have been linked with Carreras, it seems they are set to delay any moves until the summer transfer window. Real Madrid had previously targeted Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, but it now appears that the Canadian international is close to agreeing on a new contract with Bayern.

Barcelona, too, has been connected to several players, including Davies, but their ongoing financial troubles may make any significant signings difficult. Despite these challenges, the club remains linked to other high-profile targets, including Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic, both of whom could be sought after depending on Lewandowski’s future at the club.

What Does the Future Hold for Carreras?

While Carreras has no immediate plans to leave Benfica, the high-profile interest from major clubs like Manchester United, Barcelona, and Real Madrid suggests his future could be in flux. Will the 21-year-old remain in Lisbon to continue his development, or will one of these European giants secure his services in the summer?
