Manchester United has raised their offer to sign Lecce’s left-back Patrick Dorgu as they seek to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes. With manager Ruben Amorim’s system emphasizing attack-minded players, Dorgu has emerged as a key target for the Red Devils.

United’s Bid for Dorgu
After an initial bid of €27m (£22.8m) was rejected, Manchester United returned with an improved offer of €30m (£25.3m) for the versatile 20-year-old defender. Reports suggest that this is close to the maximum amount United is willing to pay for Dorgu.
According to Fabrizio Romano, United’s latest proposal is “in excess of €30m,” indicating their determination to bring Dorgu to Old Trafford. However, Lecce remains firm on their €40m (£33.7m) valuation of the player, with club president Saverio Sticchi Damiani emphasizing the importance of retaining key players as the team fights to avoid relegation.
Dorgu’s Appeal to United
Dorgu’s attacking style and versatility make him an ideal fit for Amorim’s tactical approach. After missing out on signing Nuno Mendes from Paris Saint-Germain, United shifted their focus to the Lecce star, who has impressed with his performances this season.
Antony and Rashford’s Situations
The pursuit of Dorgu coincides with United allowing winger Antony to join Real Betis on loan. While Betis will not pay a loan fee, they have agreed to cover most of Antony’s salary, saving United approximately £1.5m over the next six months.
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford’s future remains uncertain. The 27-year-old forward has been sidelined under Amorim, and while AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund showed interest, his reported £300,000-per-week wages have deterred potential suitors. Talks with Dortmund have broken down, and Milan used their final foreign loan spot on Manchester City’s Kyle Walker instead. Rashford now remains a target for struggling West Ham United.
