Pedro Porro has dismissed claims that Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is overworking his players in training and has highlighted the “spectacular” performances of teenage stars Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall. Despite a tough season plagued by injuries and poor form, Porro insists Postecoglou’s training methods are well-balanced and supports the development of Spurs’ young talents.

Spurs’ Injury Crisis and Struggles

Tottenham suffered their 12th Premier League defeat of the season with a 3-2 loss to Everton. After a disastrous first half that left them trailing 3-0, late goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison salvaged some pride. However, Spurs now sit 15th in the Premier League table, a position reflective of their challenging campaign.

The team’s struggles have been compounded by an extensive injury list, including Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Dominic Solanke, Destiny Udogie, Yves Bissouma, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, and Wilson Odobert. Most of these players would have been part of the matchday squad if fit, forcing Postecoglou to rely on younger players.

Pedro Porro: Postecoglou’s Methods Are Not to Blame

Amid criticism of Postecoglou’s training intensity, Pedro Porro defended his manager. Speaking to football.london, Porro explained that each player follows a tailored training and recovery plan based on their needs.

“We have a plan for all of our training,” Porro said. “Players who aren’t playing as much have their own schedules, and for those of us playing regularly, recovery work is a priority. The training sessions are carefully managed to ensure everyone gets what they need to stay fit and ready.”

Porro also emphasized that he incorporates additional recovery routines outside of the club’s training regime to prevent injuries and maintain peak performance.

Gray and Bergvall: Bright Spots in a Tough Season

Despite the team’s poor form, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have stepped up admirably. Both teenagers have been thrust into the first team due to the injury crisis but have impressed with their performances.

Porro expressed his admiration for the young duo, acknowledging their contributions during challenging times:
“They’ve been doing a spectacular job for the club,” Porro said. “When you sign young players, it’s often for the future, but injuries have given them an opportunity now, and they’ve risen to the occasion. This experience will make them even greater players in the future.”
