Amad Diallo made history on Thursday night, becoming the first Manchester United player to score a Premier League hat-trick since Cristiano Ronaldo achieved the feat almost three years ago. The Ivorian’s treble powered United to a dramatic 3-1 victory over Southampton at Old Trafford.

A Night to Remember for Amad Diallo
Diallo’s first senior hat-trick came in a thrilling fashion. The 82nd minute marked the beginning of his late-game heroics, as his initial attempt was blocked by a fatigued Kyle Walker-Peters. The ball fell kindly back to Diallo, who calmly slotted it past Aaron Ramsdale on the rebound.
The 90th minute brought more magic as Diallo connected with Christian Eriksen to volley United into the lead for the first time in the match. As the crowd erupted, Diallo wasn’t done yet. In stoppage time, he completed his hat-trick, sending Old Trafford into delirium and securing the win.
This marked not only Diallo’s first career hat-trick but also United’s first Premier League treble since Ronaldo’s clinical display against Norwich City in April 2022.
United’s Long Wait for Premier League Hat-Tricks
Between Ronaldo’s 2022 hat-trick and Diallo’s latest achievement, the Premier League saw 34 hat-tricks scored by 22 players across 14 clubs. Manchester City’s Erling Haaland alone claimed eight of those.
For United, however, hat-tricks have become a rarity in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era. The club’s struggles in front of goal contrast starkly with their illustrious past. After Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, it took United seven years to register their next Premier League hat-trick, courtesy of Anthony Martial in June 2020.
