Thomas Tuchel has wasted no time getting to work as England’s new head coach, with his first scouting mission set for this Saturday. The FA confirmed that the German manager will attend Tottenham’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tuchel officially succeeded Gareth Southgate as England boss on January 1, marking the beginning of his tenure as a national team coach. While England’s next fixtures—World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia—are not until late March, Tuchel is already taking proactive steps to evaluate potential players for his squad.

Scouting Focus

The match will feature several England hopefuls, including:

  • Dominic Solanke
  • James Maddison
  • Anthony Gordon
  • Tino Livramento
  • Lewis Hall

The clash offers Tuchel the chance to assess a mix of experienced and emerging talent as he begins shaping his vision for the England team.

Backroom Staff Additions

Tuchel has also strengthened his coaching team, bringing in three new members:

  1. Hilario:

    • Former Chelsea goalkeeper and goalkeeping coach.
    • Worked alongside Tuchel during his time at Chelsea.
    • Ends an 18-year association with Chelsea to join the national setup.
  2. James Melbourne:

    • Analyst who also worked under Tuchel at Chelsea.
  3. Nicolas Mayer:

    • Performance coach with previous experience alongside Tuchel at PSG and Bayern Munich.

These appointments complement the earlier addition of Anthony Barry as assistant coach, who was confirmed in October.

Transition from Interim Leadership

Lee Carsley, who served as interim England manager during the autumn, has returned to his role with the Under-21s, along with his coaching staff.

Upcoming Matches

Tuchel’s first official games in charge will be at Wembley Stadium:

  • March 21: England vs. Albania
  • March 24: England vs. Latvia

Both matches are key fixtures in England’s World Cup qualifying campaign, as Tuchel looks to make an immediate impact on the international stage.

Tuchel’s proactive start signals his intent to bring a meticulous and hands-on approach to his role as England manager, ensuring the Three Lions are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
