Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has warned his teammates to stay focused as they continue to lead the Premier League title race. Despite their commanding seven-point lead over Arsenal, Van Dijk insists that the team must be prepared for the pressure that comes with being at the top.

Speaking after Liverpool’s tense 2-1 victory over Wolves, Van Dijk acknowledged the growing nerves among fans but assured that the squad is mentally strong enough to finish the job.

“We are all human beings, and anxiety or nervousness can kick in,” Van Dijk admitted. “I said it weeks ago—we just have to buckle up and enjoy the ride. There will be a lot of twists and turns. If you’re not ready for it, it will be a difficult couple of months, but I feel like we are ready. We will give it everything we’ve got, and in 13 games, we’ll see if it’s enough.”

Having won the Premier League in 2019/20, Van Dijk knows exactly what it takes to get across the finish line. However, he also remembers the 2018/19 season, when Liverpool surrendered a strong lead to Manchester City.

With this experience in mind, Van Dijk offered some crucial advice to his teammates:

“I don’t know how others feel, but I’ve been in this situation before, and I’ve come up short twice,” he said. “We have to put all our energy into ourselves. Wolves showed how difficult every game can be, and it will be the same on Wednesday. If you start focusing on other teams, it will only backfire. When we won the league, our mentality was clear: keep going, find a way, and never look back.“
