Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim remains unfazed by mounting pressure following his team’s 12th Premier League defeat of the season. Despite the club’s worst league start in decades, the Portuguese tactician insists he is “confident in his work” and focused on turning things around.

Amorim Under Fire as United Struggle for Results

Amorim arrived at Old Trafford in November, replacing Erik ten Hag, after United activated a release clause in his Sporting CP contract. The 40-year-old was hailed as one of Europe’s top young coaches, having led Sporting to two league titles and another title challenge before his departure.

However, his tenure at United has been turbulent, with just four wins in 14 Premier League games and nine defeats in 21 matches across all competitions. December was particularly brutal, with five league losses in a single month.

Amorim has introduced a radically different playing style, requiring a long-term transition, but the lack of immediate results has placed immense pressure on his position.

Ruben Amorim: “I Am Not Worried About My Job”

Despite growing concerns among fans and media, Amorim remains defiant:

“I am not worried. I understand our fans and what the media think. I hate to lose—it’s the worst feeling. But the rest, I am not thinking about. I am confident in my work and just want to win games.”

Amorim admitted that Manchester United’s current league position—15th—is deeply concerning, as the club hasn’t finished that low since relegation in 1974. The lowest post-relegation finish was 13th in the 1989/90 season.

“The place in the table is my worry. I am not worried about me. I have a lot of problems, my job is so, so hard here. But I stick with my beliefs. We just need to face it and not run away.”

Can Amorim Turn Things Around?

United’s next challenge is a clash with Everton on Saturday, where Amorim faces former Red Devils boss David Moyes. Coincidentally, Amorim’s first English football victory came against Everton in December—a 4-0 win over Sean Dyche’s side.

Can Amorim replicate that success and buy himself more time, or will United’s struggles continue?
