Manchester United’s Premier League struggles continued as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham, marking their 12th league loss of the season. Ruben Amorim lamented his team’s missed chances and the growing injury crisis, which left him with eight teenagers on the bench.

Man Utd’s Injury Woes Continue as Spurs Capitalize

United’s problems started before kick-off, with Amad Diallo ruled out for the rest of the season due to an ankle injury. The midfield duo of Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo was also unavailable, forcing Bruno Fernandes into a deeper role. Meanwhile, Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martinez were also sidelined, leaving Victor Lindelof as the only senior defensive option on the bench.

Despite a weakened squad, United created several chances but failed to convert, with Alejandro Garnacho missing a golden opportunity from eight yards out. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee also struggled to find a way past Tottenham’s star goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who was named Player of the Match.

Amorim: “We Created Chances, But They Scored and We Didn’t”

After the match, Ruben Amorim spoke to Sky Sports, expressing frustration at his team’s inability to finish their opportunities:

“In the end, they score, we didn’t. That was the big difference in the game. We had a lot of chances but in the end, they scored one and we didn’t.”

Amorim also highlighted the impact of losing key players, forcing him to constantly adjust tactics and formation:

“You start with one idea, but when you lose players day after day, you have to change your approach. I couldn’t play the same way with Joshua [Zirkzee] as I can with Amad [Diallo].”

United’s Depth Issues Exposed as Only One Substitution Made

With injuries and illness limiting his options, Amorim was reluctant to make substitutions, only bringing on Chido Obi in the 90th minute for his Premier League debut.

“They will play during this season,” he said of United’s young players. “We will have games in the cup and Europe, and they will get chances. But today, we were close to scoring, so I didn’t want to change the players.”

The Portuguese manager remained defiant despite the club’s poor form, urging his squad to learn from the setbacks:

“This hurts. Losing so many games is painful, but we can change things in a week. We just need to face it and not run away.”

What’s Next for Manchester United?
